Things to Remember when Dining Out in Sydney

Down under the word "entree" means appetizer. So, when you are dining in Sydney, you start off with the "entree" and move on to the "mains."
The streets overflow with eateries of every flavour for any budget. Asian options, most notably Thai and Chinese cuisine, rank highly among the international selections. Though the neighborhoods vary in their offerings, no area disappoints.
There's no sales tax or obligatory tips on the cost of the bill. However, a 10% tip for good service is customary and appreciated.
Many restaurants advertise that they're BYO, which stands for 'Bring Your Own'. This means that you can bring your own alcohol to the restaurant, though you may be charged a corkage fee (around $2 per bottle). Most BYO eateries are unlicensed, but some licensed places also allow you to BYO, but it could be restricted to beer.
Increased public pressure has meant that smoking is virtually banned in most restaurants. However, some restaurants do have designated smoking and non-smoking areas.
