There was an uproar in 1821 when construction began on this Colonial Gothic building. Designed to house the stables and servants of Government House, the costs were so high that bitter arguments developed, delaying construction for 25 years. The delay instigated an uproar in London and eventually led to the downfall of Governor Macquarie. Today, The "Con" is a training ground for aspiring musicians.
