This Georgian style church, constructed with convict-made bricks set in lime mortar, is the oldest surviving church of Sydney.The site was originally intended to be used for a court house, the foundation stone of which was laid on 7 October 1819. The tall spire, which is now lost among the developments of high-rise buildings, was once used as a landmark for ships entering the harbour.
