Situated in the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Government House was built between 1837 and 1845. It replaced the prior parliament house, which has since become the Museum of Sydney. A fine example of Gothic Revival, the State Rooms display a vast array of early 19th and 20th century designs. Outside the House on the grounds are hundreds of trees, shrubs, pathways, and terraces. Unlike other colonial houses, the area has not been developed and the view to the harbour is the same now as it was when it was first built with the beautiful surroundings of the rolling green lawns of the Royal Botanic Gardens. Guided tours offer a glimpse of the former lifestyle of the queen's representative. The Government House is a part of the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales
