The gallery was established in 1874 and permanently exhibits the nation's most extensive collection of Aboriginal, Asian, and European art. The gallery features an impressive showcase of some of the best-known Australian paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings. Below ground level lies the Yiribana Gallery, which contains the largest collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art. At the entrance level, massive cathedral-style windows overlook the harbour.
