This 1,000 feet golden-minaret-topped spike is the best way to get a view of the city. The 360 degree panoramic view encompasses the entire Sydney metropolitan area of some 600 square miles, and on a clear day, you can even see as far as the Blue Mountains. The top of the tower contains two rotating restaurants, a coffee shop and an observation deck. Not completed until 1981, some of the interesting facts behind the construction of the tower include a 35,000 gallon water tank at the top of the tower that acts as a stabiliser on windy days. There are 56 cables that weigh 7 tons each that hold the tower in place, and the shaft has two double decker lifts that can take you up to the tower in 40 seconds. Below the AMP Tower is a shopping arcade that contains many specialty shops. Your ticket to the top includes OzTrek, the largest simulated ride in the southern hemisphere, for a thrilling virtual adventure across Australia. The Skywalk - an open-air stroll 268m up on a glass-bottomed platform circling Sydney Tower, opened on October 18, 2005. The Skywalk took four years to design and two months to build, using more than 2,000 sections of steel and 4,376 nuts and bolts. At 260 metres above Sydney, the Skywalk is an exhilarating outdoor walk on the roof of the city.
